cross-body baby.

Happy Monday, my loves!

I thought I’d fill you in on my new bag obsession – the cross-body bag. I have always used bigger purses with short straps, which I awkwardly carry on my forearm. I’m beginning to think I may one day end up with carpal tunnel, and so I’ve started looking around for more practical – but stylish – bag options. crossbody bag love

1. I first discovered GiGi New York while looking to buy my boyfriend a good quality monogrammed leather card holder. Of course, after the order was placed, I spent some time browsing the website and fell in love with their Madison Crossbody Bag. This gorgeous bag is big enough to hold the essentials, and has a convenient cross-body strap, leaving your hands free to roam, whether shopping for clothes, doing errands or running after your children! I love the option to personalize the bag with a monogram. I had the card holder monogrammed and was very impressed with the end result; the quality of the initials and the overall product was on point.
2. I came across this Madewell bag while on the card holder search (obviously I have trouble keeping to the task at hand). I like the size and the classic shape of this beauty. I’m not a fan of extra pockets and zippers, so the sleek design immediately drew me in. Plus, up until TODAY, October 20th, Madewell is offering complimentary monogramming, which is a definite bonus. I guess I have a thing for initials.
3. I first spotted this bad boy on YouTube, during one of Gigi Gorgeous’  clothing hauls a few weeks ago (she was showing off her new Gucci bag in the teal colour). The patent leather and chain-link strap take the cross-body trend from day to night, but boy, is it cute. Plus, I love me some tassels.
4. This Céline bag is perfection. It is also drastically out of my price range. Nevertheless, the long, thin strap, streamlined leather zip pouch and small, simple logo makes this bag THE cross-body of all cross-bodies.
Thank you for reading! I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead.

sweater weather.

good morning, my darlings! today, i’m talking about about one of my favorite fall staples – the classic cozy sweater. i love the versatility of such a simple piece, and i always have a few sweaters on rotation for each season. the fun really happens once autumn hits; layering is essential for warmth, and accessorizing is a must for style purposes!

sweater weather

there are so many ways to wear a classic knit sweater (i love this one from uniqlo, but you can find something similar almost anywhere). continue reading for some tips to looking polished, while staying toasty.

i would recommend a light-weight sweater for the office (i.e. cashmere, a light cable knit, etc). try to stay away from a chunky knit; the volume and texture can come off as too casual in a corporate setting. you can either wear the sweater on its own, or layer with a crisp white collared shirt underneath. complete the look with a long, delicate pendant necklace.

ease into the “canadian tuxedo” trend: wear your sweater over a light-wash denim shirt, while rocking a dark-wash denim skinny jean. let the tails hang out below the hem of the sweater and pop the collar. i like to pull up my sweater sleeves and show off the cuff if at all possible. you can wear this look with flats, heels or a cute pair of booties. on a cooler day, throw on a scarf! i love accessorizing with scarves. one simple piece can pull the colours in your outfit together in a no-fuss way.

time to have fun with this look. first, pull out a plaid or patterned collared shirt and layer under your knit sweater. rock this look with some leather leggings, a skinny jean, or a form-fitting skirt. be creative! next, accessorize. wearing a statement necklace instantly dresses up your outfit. last but not least, throw on a pair of your sexiest heels. voilà! you’re ready for a night on the town.

cold shoulder.

i love my shoulders. i love the way i feel when i am wearing a top that slips down, off of my shoulder, exposing my neckline, but leaving the other, more womanly parts yet to be revealed. there is something so empowering about feeling confident and powerful. these five looks from new york fashion week had me swooning. sexy, understated and classic. this shoulder-baring trend is definitely my current favorite.

what is your favorite body part?

“sexiness should not be overt. something shapeless that drapes across your hip, hangs off the shoulder; something that cowls in the front, drapes low in the back, that’s sexy.”

Rodarte x Starbucks To-Go Mug (Old)

HELLO to all my lovelies! As you have probably noticed, it’s been over a year since my last post. Life got in the way and blogging was put on the back burner. But fear not. I have big plans in motion and I’m full of inspiration.

One of my favourite things to do when putting outfits together is to pair unexpected items with each other. This gorgeous knit polo by J W Anderson has prim & proper potential if worn with some black wool trousers, but ta-da! Paired with these J.Crew boyfriend jeans, the outfit is edgy, fun and seemingly more casual. I have an obsession with mules at the moment. These Cole Haan black cork slides work perfectly with this ensemble and add an element of finesse to the look. And since I haven’t given up on summer yet, I threw some cute tortoise sunnies and a straw tote bag into the mix.

So there you have it.  A perfect outfit for a perfect Saturday afternoon. Try mixing two unexpected items in your wardrobe! Pick something super casual and wear it with something more dressy. You may be surprised with what you come up with.

PS. Does anyone remember the collaboration Starbucks did with fashion label Rodarte? I was all over this to-go mug when it was released a few years ago. Today, I filled this bad boy with some ice water & lemon wedges and took it with me on a leisurely stroll. Fashionable and practical!

hey lovelies! here’s a peek into what i’m obsessing over lately…faves of the moment

1. i’m still not over the baseball hat trend. i love the fact that i can get away with wearing a sporty ball cap with a more dressed up outfit. it’s fun to keep people interested and guessing. i like this stella mccartney one; grey wool is a new take on the typical black, plus the clean lines make the hat look more luxurious.
2. going through a superga obsession at the moment. i have two pairs… but wouldn’t mind having a gold lamé pair to wear with a pencil skirt or summer dress. these things are comfortable, preppy and fun to mix with the unusual.
3. love me anything t by alexander wang, but this sleeveless tank caught my eye as looking especially soft and versatile. my tees are my favourite items in my wardrobe; i get so much use out of them.
4. i have a similar skirt from plum, and i can’t get enough of the bold floral print. so easy to pair with a little wedge and simple t-shirt. dolce & gabbana, $1,005.
5. i’ve been obsessing over this anya hindmarch clutch for a while now. i love the idea of carrying a less structured clutch. plus, the colours are so fun!
6. when i saw these narciso rodriquez wedges featured on TMR, it was love at first sight. my “sole” aches for these beauties. perfect worn with boyfriend jeans and a fun blazer.
7. dannijo, dannijo, dannijo. damn you for being so expensive. anyways, i’m a bracelet girl, so naturally i have my “eye” on this cuff. {i have to stop with the cheesy puns, i know.}
8. this tibi dress took. my. breath. away. i love the colour. i love lobsters. it’s perfection.

i met nick thiessen at a photo shoot earlier this year, and immediately recognized a talent i wanted to work with. when the opportunity came along to style a shoot for him, i didn’t hesitate.

nick is an amazing photographer with an eye for the perfect shot. we had such a good time joining forces to bring back grunge, along with hilary rhoda look-a-like, danielle flasha. i’ve been obsessing over editorials from the 90’s grunge era, and wanted so badly to recreate it. with the help of abbotsford’s seediest backdrops and a steady drizzle of rain, nick took some amazing shots.

pink power!
1. J.Crew Cable Knit Sweater – the perfect fuschia crew neck sweater! this one would look so cute with some boyfriend jeans and loafers. for bonus points? layer with a collared shirt underneath!
2. Essie Nail Polish in “Secret Story” – i love this colour. bright but classic.
3. Dannijo “Benj” Cuff Bracelet – fuchsia + orange. YES!
4. Kate Spade Stud Earrings – i don’t typically wear earrings, but if i did, i would totally rock these. so sweet.
5. 3.1 Phillip Lim Silk T-Shirt – this t-shirt is so great. half dressy, half comfy-cute. the colour would look fabulous with denim or any patterned pants.
6. J.Crew Leather Loafers – i love loafers. these ones are so cute, especially with the beige piping along the edge. this pair would look awesome with a “canadian tuxedo” denim-on-denim look.
7. Anya Hindmarch Fabric Clutch – this clutch is so amazing. like, i would feel SO cool carrying this on a daily basis. too bad it costs more than my rent.
8. Stella McCartney Multi Coloured Knit Top – i love the combination of fuschia and orange (see above, duh). plus, sweaters are my weakness. so that’s a no-brainer.
9. Nike Dual Fusion ST 2 Running Shoe – even though i can’t pull off “running shoe chic”… these would add a pop of colour to any casual outfit – perfect for running errands. feeling gutsy? pair with some boyfriend jeans + a tuxedo-style blazer for a really edgy look.
10. Tarina Tarantino Three Row Lucite Choker – i envision this chunky necklace with a slouchy white tee and leather skinnies… something just perfect to jazz up a simple look.
