pardon the interruption.

Couldn’t let this special day slip by without a blog post dedicated to the most important person in my life.

Mom and I weren’t always this close. We had our fair share of heated arguments, frustrating shopping trips, and silent dinners in front of the TV.

But over the years, laughter has replaced arguing, and true respect has grown along with a silent but grand appreciation for one another. My mom is the first person I call when I have something on my mind, or when I have a decision to make. She is inspiring, not just as an mother, but as a hard-working nurse and a talented athlete. She is a loyal friend and a loving wife. She is my everything. She even laughs at my cheesy jokes. When Mom goes out of town, I borrow her clothes or take a nap on her side of the bed – just to feel a little closer to her.

The best thing about my mama? She’s the person I want to be. Compassionate, respectful, resourceful and independent. I look forward to the years to come, to growing older and closer to my mother. To having children of my own and seeing her face light up when she meets my little ones. To celebrating our milestones in life, no matter how small or how important they might be.

This weekend, I’ve had the pleasure of sharing special moments with many Mothers. Yesterday, I spent time with my three girlfriends who are all raising such bright, beautiful children. Jayden, Eva, Max & Sophia have the world at their fingertips, and wonderful mothers to help them find the way. Last night, we celebrated Mother’s Day with Kris’s mom, June. To witness her adult children raise a glass to their mother was heart-warming and inspiring. She has raised three spectacular individuals – a son who I love dearly, and two amazing daughters.

Today, I am going to do my darndest to make my mama smile, laugh, and realize just how happy she makes me. I sure am a lucky girl.

Happy Mother’s Day to all, but especially mine.

whimsical white

the other night, as i was curled up on the couch with my ipad, i stumbled across this editorial on fashion gone rogue and was literally breathtaken. every piece featured on doutzen kroes is perfection. a dark backdrop with the minimal, clean lines, gorgeous crisp whites, the model’s wet hair and little make-up – my heart beats a little faster when i see these images. and of course, a celine peplum top makes an appearance. peplum is EVERYWHERE right now. and man, doutzen wears it well.

fro-yo fo-sho

my brave girlfriend was in the hospital for some post-tonsillectomy care this morning, and the nurse suggested she freeze yogurt in a styrofoam cup for something soothing to munch on. i thought to myself, that’d be a good after-dinner snack, tonsils or no tonsils. all you need? cups, yogurt and frozen fruit! layered the two and threw some love in there. easy peasy, healthy and yummy.

here’s to my first DIY recipe-related post! settling down to watch the grammy’s now. wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead!

shop “his” closet 101.

Etoile Isabel Marant plaid shirt/American Apparel Baseball Tee/Labour of Love plaid mini skirt/J Brand super skinny jeans/Ash leather boots/Zara shoes (my own pair pictured above).

I’m always trying to expand my wardrobe, whether it be by borrowing, thrifting, buying, or swapping. My new trick? Raiding the boyfriend’s closet. So many slouchy plaid button-ups and worn-in t-shirts! I seriously love Kris’ baseball long sleeve from American Apparel. The other day while I was blog surfing, I came across the loveliest lady wearing an oversized baseball tee, some leather skinnies and stilettos. SO – I’m going to try it out this weekend and hopefully I’ll get a picture of the outfit in action.

Wishing all of my readers a wonderful weekend.

*Update* – I wore K’s baseball tee on Saturday night and loved it! Nothing better than being out on the town wearing clothes that feel like PJ’s.

inspired by…

it’s no secret i have a man repeller obsession. there are certain individuals that continue to inspire my passion for fashion, and leandra medine is without a doubt, one of these ladies. she posted these citizens of humanity floral skinnies recently, and it was love at first sight. seriously. my mind went topsy turvy thinking about an outfit to pair with these pretty pantalones. so naturally, i put together all of my favorites-of-the-moment and came up with this #totesamaze get-up.

Inspired by The Man Repeller

Rag & Bone PJ Blouse, Citizens of Humanity Skinnies, Givenchy Envelope Clutch, Michael Kors Silver Runway Watch, Dannijo Stanton Cuff Bangle, Hermes Black Enamel Bangle, Louis Vuitton Metal-Toed Pumps. Man Repeller sketch by the talented Inslee Haynes.

pretty pastels

although it’s too chilly to get into the spring mindset, i thought this little post would inspire my readers to start thinking about brighter days. i am so looking forward to the sun setting later, winter jackets going into storage, and warmer weather kissing my skin. i have posted an equipment blouse on my blog for every season, so this must mean i need to buy one. i love this minty green. also, this acne sweater? a must paired with some leather shorts or leggings.  essie makes the perfect polishes for spring. i adore this pale lilac shade. {i’ll do a post later on my other 2 favorites currently residing on my fingers + toes}. the finishing touch to put a “spring in your step”? spritz yourself with chanel’s eau tendre perfume. it is breathtakingly fresh and sensual.
