Couldn’t let this special day slip by without a blog post dedicated to the most important person in my life.
Mom and I weren’t always this close. We had our fair share of heated arguments, frustrating shopping trips, and silent dinners in front of the TV.
But over the years, laughter has replaced arguing, and true respect has grown along with a silent but grand appreciation for one another. My mom is the first person I call when I have something on my mind, or when I have a decision to make. She is inspiring, not just as an mother, but as a hard-working nurse and a talented athlete. She is a loyal friend and a loving wife. She is my everything. She even laughs at my cheesy jokes. When Mom goes out of town, I borrow her clothes or take a nap on her side of the bed – just to feel a little closer to her.
The best thing about my mama? She’s the person I want to be. Compassionate, respectful, resourceful and independent. I look forward to the years to come, to growing older and closer to my mother. To having children of my own and seeing her face light up when she meets my little ones. To celebrating our milestones in life, no matter how small or how important they might be.
This weekend, I’ve had the pleasure of sharing special moments with many Mothers. Yesterday, I spent time with my three girlfriends who are all raising such bright, beautiful children. Jayden, Eva, Max & Sophia have the world at their fingertips, and wonderful mothers to help them find the way. Last night, we celebrated Mother’s Day with Kris’s mom, June. To witness her adult children raise a glass to their mother was heart-warming and inspiring. She has raised three spectacular individuals – a son who I love dearly, and two amazing daughters.
Today, I am going to do my darndest to make my mama smile, laugh, and realize just how happy she makes me. I sure am a lucky girl.
Happy Mother’s Day to all, but especially mine.
